The members of Southwest Neighborhood Housing Services Board of Directors have been involved in Albuquerque communities for years.  They share a common belief that quality, affordable housing creates great neighborhoods and prosperous communities throughout the southwest.

Frankie O. Chavez

Frankie Chavez is president of Southwest Neighborhood Housing Services Board of Directors. He currently serves as the Senior Manager of the Treasury Department for The City of Albuquerque. Chavez has dedicated much of his career to servicing his community and those in need. He has serviced as fiscal analyst and planner to the governor, director of Bernalillo County Health and Social Services, fire marshal, and a served in the U.S. Air Force. He has served on the SWNHS board since September of 2002.

Bernadette Nevarez

Bernadette Nevarez is secretary of the SWNHS Board of Directors. She was born and raised in the Old Town area of Albuquerque, NM

She attended the University of New Mexico where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, and an Ed.S in Educational Administration.

Nevarez is beginning her 32nd year as an employee of the Albuquerque Public Schools. She taught for 14 years and began her career in administration in 1989.  She is the principal of Mary Ann Binford Elementary School, a Multi Track Year Round School, a position she has held for 16 years.

She is a long-time member of the National Association of Elementary School Principals and a board member of the New Mexico Association of Elementary School Principals.  She served as  president of  NMAESP from 2004 to 2005.

Nevarez works strongly to embrace and encourage the acceptance of diversity and has a lifelong goal to improve the quality of education for children and all members of this community.

Max Jaramillo

Max Jaramillo has served on the SWNHS Board of Directors since November 2000. He has been a resident of the Wells Park community for more than 35 years.  Jaramillo is happliy married for more than 35 years and has 2 sons and 4 grandchildren. He is a member of St. Francis Church. Jaramillo owns a successful painting company, is a member of the Lobo Booster Club and enjoys fast pitch softball.

Richard Higginbotham

Richard Higginbotham has served on the Board of Directors for NHS since May 2003. He is the Vice-Principal of Mary Anne Binford Elemetary School. Prior to serving in Albuquerque Public Schools, Higginbotham worked with the Capitan Public Schools and Ruidoso Public Schools as a teacher, Title I Coordinator and Reading Specialist. He received his Bachelors degree from Eastern New Mexico University and his Masters degree from the University of New Mexico.
