Bernadette
Nevarez is secretary of the SWNHS Board of Directors. She was born and raised in the Old Town
area of Albuquerque, NM.
She
attended the University of New Mexico
where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, and
an Ed.S in Educational Administration.
Nevarez is beginning her 32nd year as an employee of the Albuquerque Public Schools. She taught for 14
years and began her career in administration in 1989. She is the principal
of Mary Ann Binford
Elementary School, a Multi
Track Year Round School,
a position she has held for 16 years.
She
is a long-time member of the National Association of Elementary School Principals and a board member of the New Mexico
Association of Elementary School Principals. She served as president of NMAESP from 2004 to 2005.
Nevarez works strongly to embrace and encourage the acceptance of diversity and has a lifelong goal to improve the
quality of education for children and all members of this community.
